Ministries

If you're new to St. John's, it is our prayer that one of the following ministries meets a need you have. If you're a member of St. John's, the following ministry areas are a great opportunity for you to get involved in service to your Lord and other people.

Youth Ministry

Currently St. John’s offers opportunities for our Junior and Senior High Students to meet for fellowship, Bible Study and service.

Bible Studies

St. John’s offers a variety of Bible Studies at various times of the week. Sunday mornings is our most popular. On a normal Sunday morning we offer a separate Men’s Study, Women’s Study and a joint Men’s/Women’s Study. We cover topics that range from a Bible overview, in-depth study of a particular book of the Bible, topical studies or studies that help us grow in our Christian Discipleship.

On Thursday morning, we offer a study geared to our retired members and friends. This study normally looks at the lessons that will be used in the next Sunday services.

During various times of the year a course titled “Christian Basics: 101” is offered. This class offers an overview of Lutheran Doctrine and its application at St. John’s. This course is highly recommended for anyone wishing membership at St. John’s. It is also encouraged for anyone who would like to refresh their understanding of our beliefs. This class alternates between Sunday mornings and a Weekday evening. Courses usually run 10 to 12 weeks.

A number of St. John’s members offer home study groups. If you are interested in participating in a Home Study, contact Jim Buss for information on what is currently available.

Praise Team

St. John’s offers a Contemporary Service at 10:45 on Sunday Mornings. Much of the worship is led by our Praise Worship Team. Making use of keyboard, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, percussion, flute, trumpet , other musical instruments and vocal harmonies, the Praise team offers a new sound to our worship experience. If you would like to share your musical talents, the Praise Team can use you. The Praise Team practices on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 in the church balcony and on Sunday mornings at 8:30 in the Fellowship Hall.

Prayer Ministry

St. John’s Prayer Ministry meets alternating Thursday’s at 3:00 in the afternoon. Originally formed as a group of people concerned for our School Ministry, it has grown to pray for all the needs of our congregation and its ministries. Childcare is provided for those with young children.

Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML)
Women in God’s Service (W.IN.G.S)

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is the official women’s auxiliary of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. The LWML is focused on affirming each woman’s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and support of global missions.

St. John’s has an active local society of LWML. Some long time members of the congregation will remember this group as, "The Ruth Guild". The name was changed in 2008 and the group was re-organized and is now called, LWML – Women in God’s Service (W.IN.G.S). This group plans and participates in mission related and social activities with women from other area churches in the Zone including Zone Rallies, bible studies, mission projects and speakers from various local and national or international mission fields and representation at District Conventions.

Based on the story of the Widow’s Mite (Luke 21: 2), one of the major ongoing mission projects of the LWML is the collection of “mites”. LWML – WINGS collects loose change from members of the congregation via Mite Boxes that are submitted to the national office of LWML several times a year. The money collected is submitted to fulfill local, national and international mission grant projects. During the 65 years of the existence of LWML, Lutheran women have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for missions.

Business meetings are held quarterly on the second Saturday of the month at 9:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall unless otherwise indicated. The 2011 business meetings are scheduled as follows:

Other meetings are scheduled for planning of or participation in special events or projects. Some of these events and projects include the celebration of LWML Sunday, Muffins for Mites, the Spring Salad Supper, the Winter Breakfast, preparation of health kits for earthquake victims in Haiti, creation of Chrismons for the trees in the church chancel during the Christmas season, a Sunshine group that sends cards and makes visits to shut-ins. An LWML women’s bible study group, Pathfinders, meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the home of a member. (See the announcements published in the Sunday Bulletins for time and location.)
