What is it?

A decade-old fundraising concept: non-profit organizations, such as St. John’s, purchase SCRIP in the form of gift cards and/or gift certificates to popular retailers, at a pre-determined discount.

How does it work?

SCRIP is nothing more than a regular gift card for participating retailers that you are already familiar with. If you buy $100 in Home Depot Scrip, you'll get a $100 Home Depot gift card. You can then spend that $100 Home Depot gift card for $100 worth of merchandise at any Home Depot store. There is no extra cost to you. There are MANY participating retailers.

What's the benefit?

St. John's receives a percentage of every scrip purchase. So, to continue using the Home Depot scrip example. You purchase $100 of Home Depot scrip and receive $100 Home Depot gift card which can be used for anything Home Depot sells. At the same time, St. John's earns a percentage based on the value of the scrip. The percentage for Home Depot happens to be 4%. So when you buy $100 in Home Depot scrip, St. John's earns $4 profit.

Lower your tuition!

If you have one or more children enrolled in School at St. John's 50% of the profit from your scrip purchases can be applied to your tuition or childcare bill. Continuing the Home Depot example, you have a child enrolled at St. John's and you buy $100 in Home Depot scrip. The percentage for Home Depot is 4%. Two dollars then gets applied to your account for tuition.

How can I get involved?

Take the first step and decide to purchase SCRIP for those everyday necessities like food and gas. We realize it takes a little pre-planning, but once you get used to using gas cards at the pump and paying for your groceries with SCRIP, we’re certain you’re going to LOVE the convenience. Next, try purchasing a few gift cards as gifts. Some of the more popular retailers that are always appreciated include Bath & Body Works, Best Buy, Blockbuster, Olive Garden, Toys-R-Us, and Winkies. Soon you’ll be a full-fledged SCRIP partner; earning extra money for our church and school And you won’t have to contribute one extra dime out of your own pocket.

What retailers participate?

Where and when can SCRIP be purchased?

“On-hand” SCRIP can be purchased in the office during regular hours throughout the week. A SCRIP volunteer is also available on Sunday mornings after the 8:00 service, at the SCRIP table outside the office. Orders can be placed and dropped off to the office at any time. Again, it generally takes about a week to receive your order, and payment must accompany your order.
